Mundhiri Kothu – A Traditional Sweet from South India
Mundhiri Kothu is a treasured sweet from Tamil Nadu’s southern regions, especially popular in districts like Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari. Known for its unique texture and rich flavor, this delicacy is made from roasted green gram, jaggery, coconut, and cardamom, all coated in a rice flour batter and deep-fried to golden crispness.
Each piece is lovingly handcrafted, often in small batches, using time-honored techniques. Despite its name, Mundhiri Kothu (which means “bunch of cashews”) does not contain cashews, but is named for its clustered appearance and rich taste.
Our Mundhiri Kothu stands apart for its authentic ingredients and traditional preparation. We use no palm oil, artificial flavors, or preservatives, ensuring a pure and wholesome treat just like how it’s made at home.
It is a staple sweet during festive occasions, especially in South Tamil Nadu, and is often made during Karthigai Deepam, weddings, and temple festivals.
